Common questions

Why does it take as long as the video itself?
A browser has no way to re-assemble a video. Instead it plays it back and redraws it into a smaller frame as it goes, so a one-minute video takes about a minute. This is not a workaround but the only route available in a browser, which is why the remaining time is shown plainly.
Where does the video get uploaded?
Nowhere. The whole point is that footage with your face or your home in it never has to go to an unfamiliar site.
How much smaller does it get?
It depends on the original. Phone footage usually shrinks a lot; something already well compressed can grow instead. When that happens it says it grew rather than claiming it shrank.
Should I reduce the frame size or the quality first?
Frame size has the larger effect on file size. For something you will only watch on a phone, halving it still looks fine. For a big screen, leave the size and lower the quality.
Why is it saved as webm?
It picks the most widely supported of the formats a browser can capture. webm opens in current browsers and in most editing tools.
