Compress a video so it fits through email or a messenger. Pick the frame size and quality; the video never leaves your browser.
How to use it
- Add a video file
- Pick the frame size and quality
- Check the estimated size
- Hit Compress and wait
- Watch the result, then download
Common questions
- Why does it take as long as the video itself?
- A browser has no way to re-assemble a video. Instead it plays it back and redraws it into a smaller frame as it goes, so a one-minute video takes about a minute. This is not a workaround but the only route available in a browser, which is why the remaining time is shown plainly.
- Where does the video get uploaded?
- Nowhere. The whole point is that footage with your face or your home in it never has to go to an unfamiliar site.
- How much smaller does it get?
- It depends on the original. Phone footage usually shrinks a lot; something already well compressed can grow instead. When that happens it says it grew rather than claiming it shrank.
- Should I reduce the frame size or the quality first?
- Frame size has the larger effect on file size. For something you will only watch on a phone, halving it still looks fine. For a big screen, leave the size and lower the quality.
- Why is it saved as webm?
- It picks the most widely supported of the formats a browser can capture. webm opens in current browsers and in most editing tools.
