Common questions

Where does the document get uploaded?
Nowhere. Opening it and rebuilding it both finish inside your browser — which suits contracts and copies of ID especially well.
I cannot select the text any more.
The way it shrinks a file is by redrawing each page as an image, so the text becomes picture. That is why it warns you in advance when the PDF contains real text. A scan was already an image so nothing is lost, but if the text has to survive, do not use this tool.
The file got bigger instead.
A PDF that was already compressed well can grow when redrawn. In that case it says it grew rather than claiming it shrank. Lowering the quality or resolution will shrink it, at the cost of sharpness.
How do I choose the resolution?
Low for documents that will only be read on screen, high for anything to be printed. Check the first-page preview to see the text is still legible, then decide.
Does the page size change?
No. The original page size is kept, so print sizes such as A4 stay intact.
