Removes personal data from a PDF. The usual trick of laying a black box on top leaves the text in the file, where a copy-paste brings it all back. This re-bakes each page as an image so the text itself is gone.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF
  2. Drag over what to hide (move between pages as you go)
  3. Pick the sharpness
  4. Download the redacted PDF

Common questions

How is this different from covering it with a black rectangle?
A black rectangle is just a shape laid over the text — the text is still in the file. Copy and paste it out and everything appears. A great many document leaks by institutions happened exactly this way. This tool re-bakes the page as an image, so the text data itself is no longer in the file.
I cannot select text in the PDF I got back.
That is precisely why it is safe. Keeping the text would keep the redacted part too. If you need selectable text, this is not the right tool.
Does text disappear from pages I did not redact?
Yes. Every page is re-baked as an image, so the text data disappears from the whole document — including hidden notes and comments you could not see.
Where does the file get uploaded?
Nowhere. It is handled inside your browser and never sent to a server.
The text looks blurry.
Raise the sharpness. The sharper it is, the larger the file. For printing, the sharpest setting is the one to use.
