Redact a screenshot — remove account numbers, addresses and names. It does not cover them over — it destroys the pixels underneath, so the original is not sitting inside the file you download.
How to use it
- Paste a screenshot (Ctrl+V) or choose a file
- Drag over what you want hidden
- Pick black-out or pixelate
- Download it as PNG
Common questions
- Is it really erased, or just covered?
- Erased. The pixels in the covered area are overwritten in place and the image is re-exported from that. Unlike drawing a rectangle on screen, prising the downloaded file apart finds nothing underneath.
- Should I use pixelation or black-out?
- Use black-out for anything that truly must be hidden. Pixelation is known to be reversible for text, and this tool says so when you pick it.
- Does the photo’s location data come off too?
- Yes. Because it is redrawn on export, the capture location and device details go with it. Even with nothing to hide, one pass through this tool strips that data.
- Where does the image get uploaded?
- Nowhere. It is handled inside your browser and never sent to a server.
- I covered the wrong thing.
- “Undo the last one” takes back the most recent box, and “back to the start” restores the original image. Before you download, the original is still intact.
