Computes the contrast ratio between text and background color and tells you whether it passes the web accessibility standard (WCAG). If it fails, it suggests the nearest color that passes.

How to use it

  1. Enter the text colour and the background colour
  2. Check it with your own eyes in the preview
  3. See which bars it passes
  4. If it fails, apply the suggested colour

Common questions

What does a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 mean?
It expresses the difference in brightness between text and its background. Web accessibility guidelines set 4.5:1 as the floor for body text and 3:1 for large text.
It looks fine to me but it says fail.
How it feels changes a lot with screen brightness and the light around you. Outdoors in daylight, or on a cheap display, it often disappears — which is why there is a numeric bar at all.
What counts as large text?
18pt and above, or bold at 14pt and above. On screen that is roughly 24px, or bold 18.66px.
