Common questions
- Why not just use a file hash?
- Because what you want to delete is not only identical files but ten burst shots, a resized copy, something re-compressed by a messenger — different bytes, so a hash groups none of them.
- How does it recognise look-alikes?
- It reduces the picture to 64 bits (dHash — keeping only "is this cell brighter than the next"). Resizing and recompression barely move that value, while a different photo moves it a lot.
- Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
- No. Fingerprinting and comparing both finish inside your browser.
