Converts between bytes, KB, MB, GB and TB. The 1000-based and 1024-based counts sit side by side so you can see where the notations diverge.

How to use it

  1. Type the size and the unit
  2. Compare the two families of values

Common questions

Why does a 1TB drive show as 931GB?
The manufacturer writes 1TB meaning a trillion bytes, while the operating system counts in steps of 1024 — so the same capacity reads as about 931GiB. No space went missing; the counting differs.
What is a KiB?
A notation created to make the 1024 basis explicit. KB means 1000, KiB means 1024.
Which one is correct?
Both are in use. Storage and network speeds conventionally use 1000; memory and operating-system displays use 1024.
